This snake hid in the pump house when the mower scared it, and quickly exited when we opened the door to take a picture.

I feel like I should know what this is, but I'm drawing a blank. A particularly dense mat of quillwort? An especially small sedge? An adorably wee Juncus?

This snake was found facing a calico cat in the middle of the road at my apartment complex. Had to stop my car and get out to move the snake off the road. First tried to get away and couldn't get over the curb, then musked and became very still until removed.
