Basking on a fallen branch. 7PM. One day after a rain storm. Ground still damp. 80 degrees F.
Ceremonial start day of the Iditarod.
We saw several garter snakes on this hike, this was the only one I got a photo of but they are out and about all over well-named Snake Mountain.

I think this is a baby garden snail. A centimeter or so in length. Dark brown spiral shell. Found in a vegetable planter.
There were at least four, maybe five in view at once.
Just a few individuals were seen that day
Coyote hiding among the Giant Ripples, West Bar of Columbia River
Spooked this coyote while walking across the sagebrush desert. By the time I got my camera out - it was pretty far away and moving quick.
listorama and I went for a morning hike among the giant ripples of the West Bar - which were formed as part Ice Age Floods when Glacial Lake Missoula let go about 12,000 years ago.
Thanks to listorama getting me me out there (relatively safely) on a remarkable 2 day trip to explore some geology.

Small California Nightsnake found in our garage.
Squirrel with gray and brown fur. I found two, one of which was very friendly while the other one was really shy. Long tail but not extremely bushy. White or light gray underside.
Even a mammal-hater like me can appreciate a Gray Fox.
Two rat snakes entwined in a bushy stump. One is about 4'+ long the other is 6'...possibly longer. They were first seen separately in different parts of the yard...then one was up the tree and the other was below but still on the ground. We watched the second larger snake climb up and "snuggle" with the other. The smaller snake had a place about the size of a half-dollar that looked like a spot that didn't shed or perhaps a scar.
One of 4-6 snakes seen in area. Very active in water, hunting the many small fish?
Two seen in immediate area. First observation of multiple water snakes this day. Very active in water, patrolling flooded grass clumps.
