On a wooded trail. Shovel shaped leaves on the ground. Tall, thin stems 4'-10' tall. Yellow flowers on top.
Common in powerline for several miles north of this point. All basal leaves unlobed.
Quercus macrocarpa. Multiple galls. Sending to Forbes lab.
I found this insect on 7/21 in the bag where I was keeping these galls, which I collected on 7/19. The galls are thought to have been formed from midges in genus Rhopalomyia, so I'm guessing this thrip isn't one of the gall formers.
It looks like a wasp due to the narrow waist and bright yellow legs
