Images not great - however, a small nesting colony of about 20 birds (not all seen here) noted. Birds nesting in association with Pitt Island shag (Phalacrocorax featherstoni) and red-billed gulls (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae scopulinus).
Watched as Shag "waddled" along the sand towards the breakers, and then rode on the surf, paddling out from beach.
The naturalist at the Royal Albatross Centre said that these shags in the colony there previously thought to be Stewart Island shags are genetically distinct group
Spotted on one of the offshore platforms. I'm thinking Otago/Stewart Island shag based off the white markings on the wings.
Looked bigger than the little shags on the platform.
Spotted at least 6 fur seals on the rocks at the eastern end of Sandfly Bay.
