A hefty young button, very firm and robust. Pretty unmistakable so I left it to grow up without disturbing it further.

Cap often with darkened patches, cordovan in color (see last photo). Pores- red becoming orange or yellow orange with age. Stipe- largest 8 cm, yellow, staining quickly blue. Numerous (12 in one small area, 25 over a larger) in mixed deciduous woods with lots of oak.
Yellow brown cap, yellow pores, yellow reticulate stipe
Young female with bilateral aural abcess successfully treated and released back to exact spot found.
Don’t know what happened to her but she was found bleeding from a couple places on her plastron. I suspect she was possibly chewed on by large animal but usually there would also be damage to carapace which she didn't have. She got treated, fully healed and was returned to the exact same wooded backyard she was found. She was missing her back left foot that was already completely healed.

Gorgeous!
Sorry I could not get closer. Multiple swallows were flying back and forth.
At base of dead tree. This and a slime mold the only things yet to pop up after almost 4 hot, dry weeks then finally a couple inches of rain 3 days ago.
