Small brown snake, about 8" long and maybe 1/4" diameter
Snake was approximately 12-15 inches long
Found in a small pool in the forest; hundreds of spadefoot tadpoles were seen.
Rescued on a busy road and released close by. Almost died in the process.
The Northern Watersnake (Nerodia sipedon) was comfortably immersed in the cold canal waters close enough to the surface sunbathing at the same time. Moments after I started photographing her, she swam to another stone nearby, changing her body's position. Before she rested again, she bent her head from one side to another scrapping it against the hot stone. I imagine after a busy morning fishing, all she wanted was to rest on the warm stone digesting her full belly.
