   Prespa Lake is one of the oldest freshwater bodies in Europe and holds the world's largest colony of the globally-threatened Dalmatian pelican. It is also one of the continent's finest lake environments with huge numbers of breeding wetland birds. Yet somehow its location in the southern Balkans - encircled by mountains, and straddling the borders of three countries (Greece, Albania and Northern Macedonia) - has left the place on many peoples' wishlists but off their radars. Author Mark Cocker has been entranced by the place and visited annually for the last five years. 3. Buxton Field Club - Madagascar's environments, wildlife and endemic species Excellent and entertaining talk to BFC on 20th Feb 2021 by Louise and Stephen Moon on their expedition to Madagascar. Buxton Field Club’s next talk is Madagascar: its weird and wonderful endemic species with Louise and Stephen Moon 7.00pm Saturday 20th February.
   Louise and Stephen’s longstanding love of wildlife has taken them to numerous countries around the world, seeking out and photographing the weird and the wonderful. This talk will convey their passion for Madagascar, focusing in particular on its different environments and the variety of wildlife found there, particularly its endemic species.
   

4. 3rd October "Winter in YellowStone Louise en Stephen Moon"Recording of the double bill of talks on 3rd Oct 2020: "Winter in Yellowstone" by Louise & Stephen Moon and "Wildlife on Mull" by Andy Gregory. Superb photography and excellent talks by three of our BFC members.

5. 28th November "The Rivers of DerbyShire"Audio recording (due to copyright restrictions on photos) of Dr Scott McKenzie's excellent and informative talk on 28th Nov 2020. Well worth a listen. The Rivers of Derbyshire – The good, the bad and the recovering with Scott McKenzie (an online talk Saturday 28th November 7.00pm - see zoom link below)
   Derbyshire contains some wonderful and diverse rivers, ranging from the tumbling upland streams in the Dark Peak; the limestone rivers through the White Peak; through to the wide meandering lowland Derwent in the south of the county.
   Many of them are packed full of native wildlife and some are even recognised for their ecological importance through SSSI designation.
   It’s not all been plain-sailing, though, and some of our rivers have had a difficult past – particularly since the industrial revolution.
   In his presentation Scott will talk about the diversity of rivers across the county; the importance of healthy and natural watercourses; some of the threats to our freshwater habitats – and what can be done about it.
   Scott grew up in the Cheshire countryside and has always had a passion for wildlife – especially all things wet. Having never really grown out of the excitement gained from pond dipping, Scott is Living Rivers Programme Manager at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust where he drives forward improvements to the rivers of Derbyshire.
   Scott’s career has been split across a number of sectors and he has worked for the Environment Agency, private environmental consultants and academic institutes – but the common thread has always been ecology and a love of being outside regardless of weather conditions. Please join us for what will be a fascinating talk.
