The City Nature Challenge 2022 is coming up soon! We need your help! On April 29 to May 2, we need you to make as many observations on iNaturalist to help us with this global event!

It won't be long until the City Nature Challenge 2021!
This is the first time our region will participate!

Hey fellow iNaturalists!
We need your help! My organization, the Rolling Plains Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist*, invites YOU to join us in the 2021 City Nature Challenge. April 30 through May 3, 2021, participants will take site specific photos of insects, birds, plants, or any wild living organism. This is a friendly world-wide competition of pre-determined city regions with winning cities being announced on May 10. Our region will include the following 10 counties in Texas: Archer, Baylor, Clay, Foard, Hardeman, Jack, Montague, Wichita, Wilbarger, and Young. Any observations made during the dates above in these counties will be included in our count for the competition.
While there are no physical prizes for the area that has the most observations, you certainly can gain a better connection with the nature around you and have fun doing it while recognizing that you are contributing to our knowledge of what is in our area. Biodiversity documentation from this event has been responsible for research and the sightings of over 1,000 rare or endangered species that might have been over looked! Along with the satisfaction of helping grow biodiversity documentation for the world, you can enjoy some friendly competition in the soul-refreshing outdoors!
I see that you are active with iNaturalist and want to encourage you to help us collect as many observations as we can during this event. We also could use your help with ID'ing after the event.

I did not hesitate to donate $10 to help with iNaturalist. It is worth more than that to me, but if everyone would pitch in, I am sure it would help.

While going out on a BioBlitz walk to gather more pollinators, I came across a little scared and cold puppy that was curled up in a ball in some grass alongside the access road to an interstate highway. I was just about to take a photo of some dayflowers, when I saw the puppy.
Not having a place to keep the little guy, I had to call animal control to come get him. He was shaking, scared, and would not get up so I thought he might be injured. When the man from animal control came, he said "this dog doesn't look right and may have rabies". I was devastated! He got my number and said I may get a call from the health department in case I touched him. It was hard not to touch him because he was an adorable little puppy that was scared and alone. My friend who deals with lost dogs everyday checked on the puppy today and found that he has an owner! Hurray! The owner needs to bring in his rabies shots records and then they can pick him up tomorrow. I can't tell you how happy that made me! Well, anyway, if not for the BioBlitz, this little puppy may not have been recovered and brought back to his home!
Yea for the BioBlitz!
I look forward to the Pollinator BioBlitz every year! It is so much fun when you get a photo of something you have never seen before!
What amazes me the most is that in just an hour of BioBlitzing, you can observe and document so many different species!
Biodiversity is one of my favorite words!
