Geographical area - India-Maharashtra state-Konkan region (westernmost part of the state) https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/umbrella-biodiversity-konkan-division-mh-in?tab=observations&subtab=map
Konkan division contains, Mumbai city, Mumbai suburb, Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri and SIndhudurg districts.
This region is coastal region of Maharashtra and lies between Sahyadri Mountain range on east and Arabian sea on west. This region has highest rainfall in whole state of Maharashtra.

From north to south - Palghar, Mumbai city, Mumbai suburb-Thane-Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg

Comment - We need experts to provide ID to the observations, which have no BN yet.

Endemic birds of India: Review after 3 years

Date: Sep 14, 2023
This project is started on 7th July 2020. More than three years have passed.
I thought of taking a detailed look at the picture the stat is showing.
There are 64 species of birds, which are endemic to India.
Notable features of the documentation done so far.
1) All 64 species have been documented.
2) There are 6680 observations.
Research grade - 93.52%, Needs ID - 3.43%, Casual - 3.05%
3) Observers are 1112
4) Identifiers are 709. (Maximum by Afsar Nayakkan - 1975 )
5) Most observations are by Avinash Bhagat (238/6680 = 3.56%)
164 are Maverick
6) Most species are 53/64 (82.81%) by Avinash Bhagat.
7) Most observed species is White cheeked Barbet (1163/6680 = 17.41%)
8) Max comments for and most favorite is Forest Owlet
9) Maximum geographical areas documented : peninsular (western part of the southern India) and Andaman and Nicobar region.
10) No record from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Punjab.

Pune dist biodiversity scenario in four years

This project was started on Aug 9. 2019 (four years have passed since).
Number of members - 32

Significance of this region:
Pune is a district in the western Maharashtra state of India.
Its western part has Sahyadri mountain range or Northern western ghats. It also has many high level plateaus (HLFP). This region is home to Moist deciduous forests, Semi-evergreen forests.
Talukas - Junnar, Ambegoan, Khed, Maval, Mulshi, Velhe, Haveli, western Purandar
Its eastern region is a rain-shadow zone, a part of the Deccan plateau. This region is a home to dry deciduous and thorny forests. It has many grasslands.
Talukas - Shirur, Eastern Purandar, Baramati, Daund

Thus Pune region has tremendous biodiversity in terms of the wildlife because of difference in the altitude, soil structure, rainfall, humidity, wetlands, climate found in both the western and eastern zones.
As Pune city and its suburbs is been chosen for the development of a "smart city", there is a marathon speed of development and thus human encroachment on all so called empty non-agricultural areas around. Activities like road-widening, tunneling of the existing hills, river sand mining, rock crushing, construction work, metro railways, cutting of old trees etc are in full swing. Most of the farmers have sold their land for construction of roads, malls, housing schemes.
The endemic species of flora and fauna and the migratory bird species have become threatened and vulnerable.
We wished to pool all the observations, which can be used for the conservation purposes.

Review of the endemic mammals of India

I started this project on July 7, 2020 - more than three years have passed.

Reason to study the current status of the documentation of endemic mammals of India -
As Indian wilderness is shrinking day by day and the animals are under stress of habitat loss and poaching, I thought of compiling observations of mammals, which are endemic to India.
If these are gone, we won't have anything to replace them or find them elsewhere sadly.

1) Out of total of 49 endemic species, 29 are documented so far.
2) Total of 6373 observations are seen.

Review of Ducks, Swans, Geese of India

Purpose of the project - India is home to many species of ducks and is also a winter refuse for migratory ducks.
However, the condition of existing wetlands is under threat of pollution, developmental projects, and birds are getting less and less in number....this attempt to compile may throw some light.
