This was the largest Desert Cottontail I have ever seen. It was also the boldest, and ran up to me and my family. At one point, it got within two yards of us.

Was under a metal sheet and was relatively active, although I was able to catch it. Was not very defensive, although it did open its mouth and try to strike at one point. looked like a juvenile born last year. Weather was partially cloudy at time of observation. Rained about a week earlier. The temperature under the metal sheet was 69.6 degrees F and the humidity was 81.0% RH.

2-3 year individual. was under a metal sheet. Flicked its tongue a bit, but otherwise didn't move until the cover was being replaced. At this time, it did not rattle or strike, but simply retreated to the back of the metal sheet. A large rodent was also under the sheet (shown in photo 4). A rock crevice/hole was under the metal sheet (photo 5). Weather was partially cloudy at time of observation. Rained about a week earlier. The temperature under the metal sheet was 72.8 degrees F and the humidity was 91.8% RH.

2nd-3rd year individual. was under a metal sheet. Never moved or so much as flicked its tongue. Lots of acorn remains were found under the metal sheet, signifying high rodent activity under the sheet. Weather was partially cloudy at time of observation. Rained about a week earlier. The temperature under the metal sheet was 62.4 degrees F and the humidity was 68.6% RH.
