Growing up, I spent a lot of time roaming the woods and hills around Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee and I've always been interested in nature and ecology. When I got my first camera (a Polaroid Instamatic) at 15 years old, it was a natural progression for me to use it to document the world around me. I studied journalism in college, which helped me develop my photography skills a little more. After college, I explored and surveyed caves, assisting with many projects to document and protect their historic, cultural and natural resources. I love taking photos of plants on my travels, but for the last couple of years I've been spending my time taking photos of things I find growing here in Tennessee, and especially on our farm in Giles County. I also occasionally cohost episodes of Volunteer Gardener.
