Writer and entomologist, author of Insectpedia (2022), Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect (2021), lead author of the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America (2007), and co-author of the second edition of Insects Did It First (2018) with Gregory S. Paulson. Currently living in Leavenworth, Kansas, USA.

LICENSING: I have reluctantly allowed image use, with attribution, for non-commercial use so GBIF and Wikimedia can use them. If you wish to use my images, I still want you to ask first, please. Thank you.

I have a strong commitment to elevating BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, and other marginalized demographics in natural science disciplines.

My major interests are in preserving biodiversity in urban and suburban settings, and initiating an international "rights to nature" movement.

NOTE: One location in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, east of the end of Pikes Peak Avenue, has been bulldozed to make way for a new housing development. It was an old landfill that was restoring itself as a shortgrass prairie with two watercourses along its edges. I cannot communicate how devastating this is, as I documented over 750 taxa of animal life there, within easy walking distance of my home.
