These trees live on a mountain, so they must therefore have deep root systems and must be adapted to extreme temperatures. Mushrooms are seasonal, and rely on the wet winters. The fungi on the trees have adapted to living off trees as their deep rooting system must extract more nutrients and water than was possible as a fungus.
