Hello to all new members to The Landings/Skidaway Island, GA project.
This new project is a way to see all the species identified in The Landings and on Skidaway Island, Georgia. I created this with the hope that, as a group, we could help all members with identifying whatever we see. Too often observations languish with too few confirmations (Agree) to be research grade. Also, we sometimes make mistakes because no single person is solid with all the categories entered. It is my hope that we can collectively help one another and learn more in doing so.
Any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. This new project is a learning experience, so whatever WE can do to improve it and make it more effective, will be implemented.
I have started trying to go through the new observations to this project every day, adding whatever I can (Agree, suggestion, alternate thoughts, etc.). If all of us would spend some time doing this, from time to time, we would develop a very comprehensive list of species here. As of noon on 6/18,
Overview
2,262 OBSERVATIONS
762 SPECIES
607 IDENTIFIERS
173 OBSERVERS
This is impressive, and I’m sure it will grow rapidly. Let’s make it a fun way to learn more about the nature around us.
One final thought, when this virus is history, perhaps we can meet as a group and/or have occasional outings to find new things. We can all learn from one another.
Thanks,
Rich Wolfert

There have been 35 new observations in the short time since the original post (above). If you have any friends who use iNaturalist on our island, please encourage them to add this Project to their account. Again, while no single person is strong with all observation categories, as a group, we can help other members to identify and learn about species with which they are not familiar. Look at other members’ observations and help with the ID when you can. Others will do the same for you.
Thanks,
Rich Wolfert
