Announcing *Independence Day ArMI* for an Invasive-Weed-Free Arlington

We are planning our first events! @ecrow (co-admin) is spearheading the Hill's Hill effort, and this first series of events. She has put out some great materials for the announcement, so I just copied part of her announcement from nextdoor. She also wrote a newsletter. Way to go, E!

Thank you to everyone who come out on that HOT Tuesday evening to help spread the word and pull invasive weeds! We are still small, but growing, and it was really nice to be able to meet people who share this interest. We spent some time introducing people to iNaturalist and the gamifiied easy-use version, Seek. We also got some weeding done, despite the heat -- see recent observations of Oriental (Asiatic) Bittersweet and Black Swallow-Wort in the group for details.

My favorite part was sharing tips and resources for identifing and combatting invasive species. I got some great pointers from other ArMI members, and had an excellent audience for my favorite tips. I will eventually make a post with my favorite resources, but for now I'm still working on compiling them. I have also recently found a few other groups with common interests, and I think networking with them will really help to spread the word.

Newton Conservators: I found this group when I googled "black swallow-wort flyer" -- they had a really nice one, and I copied some of their wording for our flyer (see earlier post). They are very well organized and I want to get some tips for growing our group, and making educational posts from them. They have many upcoming events, and a great section (under Get Involved/Invasive Plants) on invasive weeds. https://newtonconservators.org/

Friends of Menotomy Rocks: This group has done an excellent job protecting the biodiversity in their park, and Elliot (my dog) and I met some individuals who are really passionate about it, and have been working on it for years. They are recruiting for an event pulling invasive weeds around the border, and I think that would be a really great opportunity to network for our broader initiative. https://patch.com/massachusetts/arlington/an--help-keep-a-park-beautiful-with-friends-of-menoto18b2fe14ee
