Call-out to teachers to prepare for National School BioBlitz in Sept - free workshop on Thu 11 August 3.45-4.45pm

ACSA (citizenscience.org.au) has partnered with Planting Seeds (www.ps.org.au) and are pleased to announce their free workshop this week for primary and high school teachers who would like to learn how their school can participate in the inaugural B&B National School's BioBlitz (ps.org.au/bioblitz-2022) in September.

The B&B BioBlitz citizen science project in September aims to help threatened pollinator and plant species, and supports STEM outcomes. The workshop is this coming Thursday 11 August, 3.45pm - 4.45pm.

Teachers (primary and high school) are invited to learn about:

  • How schools can participate in the inaugural National Schools B&B BioBlitz in September
  • Citizen science, which enables students to take photographs and contribute their observations to Australian and international biodiversity databases
  • How student citizen science data can help threatened plant and pollinator species
  • How citizen science links to State curriculums and develops STEM skills

The national BioBlitz will involve a lunch-time or recess investigative activity in school grounds in the first week of September – National Biodiversity Month. Students will contribute important data and observations on threatened and local species to iNaturalist and the Atlas of Living Australia.

The workshop will provide numerous links to curriculum plus Dept of Education developed resources. Participants will have opportunities for further research into local plant and animal species.

By participating in the BioBlitz, schools will have the chance to win Optus Smart devices.

The B&B BioBlitz is coordinated by PlantingSeeds Projects and supported by NSW Dept of Education, Australian Citizen Science Association and CSIRO’s Atlas of Living Australia.

Register for the BioBlitz as above or email info@ps.org.au
