Another earthquake struck with a tsunami warning and this time I did not go to the moana as it was sounding strange as well as getting a text from whanau telling me not to. However, here are some stunning photos I found of what has happened to the sea bed around the Kaikoura area as it has been raised.
The bull kelp and paua are now exposed in the intertidal zone instead of being in the subtidal zone, below the low tide mark.

It is going to be very smelly in a couple of days.
I expect all those Paua aren't going to work out that the tides not coming back until it is too late.
Wow! Thanks for sharing those images.
Looks like the seabed has risen many meters.
Who would have thought the paua stocks were in such good shape! I even saw an image of a large banded wrasse that had been caught out by the upheaval.
Yes. I was shocked by similar images on the news this evening. I also couldn't help thinking that the paua wouldn't figure out what had happened in time to survive. All that kelp will die, too. It struck me like something from a futuristic scene.
Amazing eh! The good news is that some are being rescued :)
