Over 100,000 observations to celebrate 100 years of the National Park Service!

This map ranks each National Park by the number of iNaturalist observations made within its boundaries during 2016 (as of the time of this posting). 295 parks have at least one observation!

Nearly 3/4 of parks representing though - not bad!

Fantastic! What a great job by the iNaturalist naturalists. In my humble opinion people do care about the Earth's flora and fauna.

Call to action for Rhode Island and Oklahoma especially—the only two states that aren't on the map this year for NPS! Tag your RI and OK friends :-) @rhodycaroline

Update on 8/25: Rhode Island added some observations! They're in the servicewide project now even if not on this map: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=8&project_id=6810&verifiable=any

What fun. I'm happy that I added to the total in 6 National Parks since joining the community in May.

Very interesting map, I'll do my best to expand some of those circles a bit. This is a really nice project idea!

Also, I see a gray dot I can help fill, I'll have to add my Sunset Crater observations!

I'm looking forward to seeing the results by the end of the year.

Port Chicago National Memorial looks like the last spot for CA. Maybe @kueda, @loarie, @dpom or @kestrel are close enough (please accept my apologies if the notification is intruding).

This is really cool! And motivational to go to tiny grey dots!

For anybody who like me was considering "swinging by" Port Chicago NM, turns out it's on an active military base and requires US citizenship and a two-week advance reservation: https://www.nps.gov/poch/planyourvisit/hours.htm

That's too bad. Maybe we can contact them and encourage them to drop by an observation or too...

@loarie @forester93 -- any chance of getting an updated map on the observations for the national bioblitzes?

I see Oklahoma got on the map! http://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=12&project_id=6810&verifiable=any

I love watching the counts continue to climb on this project and also look forward to the next map update :-)
