A challenge has been issued to students - which university can make the greatest impact to their local CNC stats??

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS - We need your help!

A challenge has been issued to see which group of university students can make the greatest impact in their local area during the global 4-day City Nature Challenge. To accept this challenge and have your efforts highlighted all you have to do is join the new iNaturalist project: CNC 2021 Challenge - Canadian University Students

The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. Over 500 cities from more than 40 countries are registered to participate in this year’s event, which encourages use of the free iNaturalist app to track species observations that become part of an international database of biodiversity.

In 2021, twenty-three (23) Canadian cities are registered to participate in this year’s CNC event which will take place between April 30 – May 3.

There are many universities in our Canadian CNC areas!

This is an opportunity for individual universities to accept the CNC university student challenge and show how their students can make a valuable impact during their local CNC event. Participating universities will need help from their student bodies if they wish to be competitive against Canadian universities spanning the country from Cape Breton to British Columbia.

Any university student may accept the challenge.
Students should join the iNaturalist project today and learn more about how students can make an impact.
Now is the time to start chatting with other students and within bubbles.
Get organized. Get prepared!
Good luck!

Announcing the 2021 City Nature Challenge - 23 Canadian cities registered to participate!

In 2021, due to COVID the global City Nature Challenge (CNC) event will be less of an international competition and more of a collaborative effort to highlight biodiversity around the world in urban areas.

Over 500 cities from more than 40 countries are registered to participate in this year’s event, which encourages use of the free iNaturalist app to track species observations that become part of an international database of biodiversity. The event will run in two parts: recording observations from April 30th to May 3rd and identifying observations April 30th through May 9th.

In Canada, 23 cities are currently registered to participate in the 2021 event. A coalition of the local Canadian organizers wishes to challenge all Canadians to get outdoors, explore, observe nature, share observations (using iNat of course), and have fun (while following all local COVID restrictions).

It is our hope that in 2021 bubbles of university students will participate in full force. To add a little competition between student bodies several local CNC organizers plan to issue a challenge to universities in their areas. Hopefully students will challenge other students. The expectation is that local students will make a valuable/visible impact during the 4-day event!
