Maker of weird art, friend to sea lions, year-round skindiver and wild swimmer in the Puget Sound region, and Artist-in-Residence for the 2020 Sedna Epic arctic snorkel expedition.

I have my Open Water SCUBA certification, but I much prefer the freedom of being in the water (and actually in physical dialogue w/ the water) without all the cumbersome and restrictive equipment (and without all the expenses). Additionally, while there are plenty of people SCUBA diving in the Sound, I don't think there are many people at all exploring the near-surface/air-water interface that I am exploring via snorkel, so I see a greater potential to encounter organisms about which little is known.

I am an amateur naturalist with over a decade of birding experience. Currently my focus is primarily on marine organisms, however, and I'm very curious about hydrozoans in particular, as well as the seasonal movement of sea lions through the Puget Sound.
