Hello and welcome.

My profile photo shows a Snowberry Clearwing Moth (Hemaris diffinis) visiting a Buttonbush flower (Cephalanthus occidentalis).

I take special care to not damage anything that I photograph and to not disturb its surroundings.

Some revelatory and/or interesting reading:

"The remaining carbon budget [the net amount of carbon dioxide humans can still emit without exceeding a chosen global warming limit] . . . for a 50% chance of keeping warming to 1.5C is around 250 GtCO2 as of January 2023, around 6 years of current CO2 emissions."

Prospects for drought and mega-drought in Western North America:

"The turn of the century drought in western North America was the most severe drought over the past 800 years, significantly reducing the modest carbon sink normally present in this region. Projections indicate that drought events of this length and severity will be commonplace through the end of the twenty-first century. Even worse, projections suggest that this drought will become the wet end of a drier hydroclimate period in the latter half of the twenty-first century."
