Australian Citizen Science Association Chair

I'm pleased to let you know that I was appointed as Chair of the Australian Citizen Science Association (ACSA) at their AGM last week. I am very excited to take on the role for a range of reasons. It's an exciting time to be involved in Citizen Science with Government and Research bodies taking more notice of the enormous potential of citizen science to generate multiple benefits. I’m also excited by the prospect of working with like-minded people (as I do with BCAL) to strengthen the connection between citizen and professional scientists. BCAL gives me a good grounding on some of the practicalities of implementing citizen science projects. My chair role in ACSA will be more about advocacy and strategy so between ACSA and BCAL I will have a happy balance of CS activities.
All the best, Annie

Don't miss this! Brush-tailed Phascogales, and rainforest rehabilitation

We have not one but two wonderful speakers for our AGM, 23 Nov. 1600 Ulladulla or Zoom.

The elusive Brush-tailed Phascogale – Dr Susan Rhind
Susan Rhind is a wildlife biologist with extensive experience in observing the behaviour of hollow nesting animals, of which the brush-tailed phascogale is one. Susan thought this pretty marsupial with its bottle-brush tail was extinct (or near enough) on the NSW South Coast. But when reviewing records for the revised edition of ‘The Mammals of Australia’ published by the Australian Museum, she came across a sighting at Broulee. This is your opportunity to learn about the Brush-tailed Phascogale, and also to hear about Susan’s other projects on the South Coast.

Rainforest recovery – Dr David Bain
David Bain is a senior threatened species officer with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. He has been working in threatened species conservation in the south east of NSW for 20 years, partnering with universities, private industry, NGOs and government. David will speak about his work with landholders to improve the condition of rainforest on their properties.

Please register your attendance at Budawangcoast@gmail.com indicating whether you will attend in person or on Zoom.
